michelle & joe ... july 20, 2007

congratulations to michelle & joe! we had an awesome time shooting michelle & joe's wedding... they celebrated and honored Chinese wedding traditions during their day and here's some of my faves...

michelle on her way to the tea ceremony with her maid of honor, beth...

In the traditional Chinese marriage ceremony, both the bride and groom kneel in front of their parents and other elders such as grandparents, aunts, and uncles and serve them tea. That is a way to express their gratitude. The elders then drink a small portion of the tea and then give them a red envelope, which symbolizes good luck.

the bride...

the groom...

wait a minute, is that my second shooter?? or is she a make-up artist too?? lol...
tina, who second shoots for me, was one of michelle's bridesmaids! although she didn't have a camera on her that day, she was very helpful with coordinating the day... thanks tina!

michelle and the girls got all dolled up...

while the guys relaxed and played some poker...

did i hear joe say he was "all in"???

gotta love the details!

and of course, the traditional, lion dance during the reception...
lots of fun!

thank you for sharing your special day with us!

"Running of the Brides"

The annual Filene's Basement, world famous Bridal Event will be this Friday, July 27th here in Chicago on State Street...

Should you decide to be part of the 'running of the brides', here are some tips to prepare you for the event :)

1. Arrive at Filene's Basement very early, as the line starts forming hours before the store opens for the wedding dress sale.

2. Bring a team of at least two helpers with you. While it may be tough to talk a guy friend into joining you, if you can, you'll be glad for the help, as wedding gowns can be heavy!

3. Devise a way to keep track of your team once you're in the store. You might all wear bright colored sweatshirts or hats, carry flashing light sticks, don silly headbands with springy antennae or wear whistles around your necks.

4. Visit a bridal salon or study bridal gowns in magazines and on the Web to decide in advance what type of gown you prefer. White or ivory? Simple or elaborate? Sheath or full-skirted? Be sure to show your team pictures of what you have in mind. Also be sure your helpers know what sizes to look for, keeping in mind that most bridal gowns run small, so you'll need a size larger than what you normally wear. A good seamstress will have little trouble altering a gown that is too large, but you should avoid gowns that are too snug.

5. Wear comfortable shoes and a bodysuit or bathing suit under a sweatsuit. It's not likely that you'll find a dressing room, so you'll have to try on wedding dresses in the midst of the chaos.

6. When the doors open, be prepared to grab up as many wedding dresses as you can in the first several minutes. Once the racks are emptied and brides begin trying on wedding gowns, bartering begins, so the more dresses you score up front, the better your chances of swapping for "the one."

7. Don't be afraid to try on a dress that isn't exactly what you had in mind. You may be surprised once you see the gown on you instead of on a hanger.

8. Bring along a small mirror, as it may be difficult to get a place in front of the store's full-length mirrors. It won't be ideal, but it will give you a sense of whether the gown's neckline is flattering and help you decide whether to hold onto a dress or pass it along.

9. Be patient. As more brides-to-be either find their perfect dresses or give up, there will be additional gowns to try.

10. Keep in mind that no dress is a bargain if you don't love it. Filene's Basement won't allow you to return a wedding dress purchased at the sale, so save your money if you don't think you'll be completely satisfied. That said, if you do find a spectacular dress, run straight to the registers. Filene's Basement's wedding dress sale is a one-day event.

fremy & mark ... e-session .............california style.............

the business side of our trip was to shoot fremy & mark's engagement session... these two were so cute together! the first part of their engagement session was shot at the walt disney concert hall in downtown los angeles... this place was awesome and the architecture was amazing... the architect who built the disney concert hall, also designed the millenium park concert hall... they share similarities, but the one in L.A. was so much more beautiful on a grander scale... a must see if you're ever in L.A. :)

our next stop was at the santa monica pier where we got some awesome shots and just in time for the sunset...

thank you for such a fun session! and thanks for dinner at gaucho grill :)
we look forward to your wedding!

vegas baby 7.7.7

i missed out on my sister's 21'st birthday last year, so this year, i had promised her a trip to vegas for her birthday... which was 7-7-7! happy birthday stine! we also celebrated our 4th year wedding anniversary on the 4th of july!

good times, good times...

it was super hot in vegas when we were there... the thermostat hit 115 degrees! yikes! it was very dry but surprisingly tolerable because there was no humidity... but we still stayed indoors as much as we can...

one of the many 7-7-7 brides walking around in vegas... had to get this shot! there were 777 couples that got married at venetian alone!

chocolate heaven! this chocolate fountain was shot at the bellagio... yummy!

doesn't it just make your mouth water? :)

poker craze! while we were there, the World Series of Poker was going on at the Rio... they had a celebrity poker tournament and was lucky enough to capture Ben Affleck, Shannon Elizabeth, and other poker gurus... other celebs that i saw but not lucky enough to shoot were Charles Barkley, Adam Sandler, and Jason Alexander...

if you're ever in vegas, i highly recommend visiting the Red Rock Canyon which is approximately 15 miles away from the strip... unfortunately a fire just broke out several days before we visited and i was able to capture these images... it affected about 400 acres of the beautiful Red Rock Canyon...

high on life... literally...
it's so funny how we both jumped the exact same way...
not planned at all...

now back to work... i'll be posting on the 'business' side of our trip soon... :)

she got her first ears! oOo

ok so i haven't blogged for awhile and this is why... we just got back from a business/family vacation in california... these photos were shot w/ my handy dandy point and shoot :) just wanted to share...

oOo disney fan in the making oOo

it's the year of a million dreams and we were randomly chosen by a disney cast member to be 'honorary citizens of disneyland'... shortly thereafter, he made a phone call and mickey came out to meet little misha mouse :)

gotta meet the mouse!

it's so different going on vacation with a little one! it was still so much fun and i'm glad that we had a little break for the summer :)
